Passion

Anything with the word passion gets me, and passion fruit I happen to LOOOOVE! Have you seen the flower? Isn't it one the most beautiful nature creations or what? The white flowers, with purple to pink crown blooms, remind me of summers in Brazil. How about the smell of the fruit? It smells like love, I mean passion. I tend to get those confused! I guess because those two overlap in my world. This is a passion inducing plant that happens to be a sedative. And hey, sorry to disappoint you, the fruit, Maracuja, as is called in Brazil, will actually make you sleepy. The juice is given to babies to help the little ones have sweet dreams. So if you’re thinking about an aphrodisiac experience, you’d better stick with the oysters and the chocolate thing. But you can, and should, enjoy the tart and, yummy, taste of all this passion in a Mousse de Maracujá. No expectations really, except for a great tasting desert, by the end of the night!

Mouse de Maracujá (Passion Fruit Mousse)

1 can of condensed milk
1 can of heavy cream
Fill one empty can of condensed milk with the concentrate juice of passion fruit

Bring it all to a blender and mix it. Pour the mousse in individual bowls and bring to the refrigerator. Let it chill, around 4 hours or overnight. Before serving, add a small spoon of passion fruit with seeds directly over the mouse to decorate it.

This is such an easy dessert to make that it’s almost embarrassing. But we’re talking about results here. I guarantee, this is so good you won’t have to reveal how long it took to put it together!

Make 3 Wishes!

If you have been in Salvador, Bahia you know that is impossible to walk without a street vendor stopping you to tie one around your wrist. They take forever to fall off, I mean forever, but they're so fun and colorful when they're new! The "fitinhas" are tied, 3 wishes are made and Nosso Senhor do Bonfim will help your wishes come true. I just hope you'll remember your wish when the fitas finally fall-off in a couple of years : )

Alicia Keys and Beyonce Going Brazilian Style!

Beyonce and Alicia Keys filming in Rio de Janeiro the video for their duet "Put It In A Love Song" of Alicia's album The Element of Freedom. Arriving just in time for the biggest party on earth, the Carnaval, the two singers were looking gorgeous in brazilian style! Alicia posted a photo of herself on her Twitter. Admiring Rio she wrote "First look on top of the mountain of brasil off to an incredible start".

Pagode for real!

The real deal... In the 70s, the fathers of pagode as quality music of roots, partido alto. Innovators before so many imitators, the samba as "articulation between the people through the music that everybody sings and dances". Their tan tans, padeiros, repiniques de mão and lots of swing. SALVE FUNDO DE QUINTAL!

Back from Brazil

After spending 35 days south I'm back full of energy and eager to share more dance and music with you. For a month I only spoke portuguese, eat delicious Brazilian food cooked by the best chef in the world, my mom, and spent time with my family. Its wonderful to go back to our roots and be able to find the core of ourselves in the strength of our loved one. It was a gift to me to be able to share a glass of wine with my beautiful mom and sister as 2009 was ending and 2010 just beginning. I also feel blessed for the opportunity to experience my culture without any artifices. I let me hair down and enjoyed the sunshine. On my last days in Brazil the rain fell heavily. It did disturbed me a bit, I enjoyed it making sure to purposely take a couple of natural showers walking through busy Brazilian streets.

I hope you had time to reenergize yourself and reconnect with loved ones. I hope you feel full of passionate energy to follow your goals and find your bliss in this new year that we're already creating! Cheers!
